"I can make it through the rain"

"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."
-Dolly Parton

What a long day it has been. I'm starting to get the flu symptoms and my body is giving me signals that I need some rest. The weather has been unpredictable lately and sure enough, I got caught in the rain. However, that did not interfere with my motivation to continue with the strategies and activities for today's session. K.T. needs to hear the encouragement in my voice telling her that she is making progress. She enjoys the praises and incentives. I give her so much credit for having all the energy despite a long day for her too. When I see the enthusiasm in her, it pushes me to keep going even when feeling weak. My biggest reward is if in the end, she will be able to read with confidence and be proud of herself for how far she has come. After all the courses we have taken, there is a better understanding of how to apply these strategies with actual students who need the assistance.

  1. The drive in you is something to be commended, since that's a true indicator of a great teacher. Knowing that you weren't feeling well, you still showed up for our second session with your student. I know the feeling!

  2. Great work Annette! I think it's awesome that you are using an incentive for your student. Pushing through the tough times is always rewarding at the end. Here's to delayed gratification.

  3. That's a great point, Annette! Our kids are also coming from a whole day of school and might even have homework and chores to do at home. We've got to encourage them in any way we can, with our voice and actions, little prizes as needed. If they lose steam, our sessions can't be as productive. Seeing your child today, I could already see the difference! She seemed less shy and overall ready to learn. I hope I can do the same when illness visits me--thanks!

  4. Annette,
I hope you're feeling much better! It seems like your student is doing well with a little confidence and encouragement. I know we all can use it! Thankfully we're Team MAGEC and we help each other out! Lucky for kt she has you! Keep up the great work and see you on Thursday!
