Today, I was struck by how loudly and confidently he read his story and how well and quickly he went through the comprehension questions for the passages we read. It's such a change from his shy and reticent self just a few months ago. I see the same improvement in all of our students. I think the way that these courses are set up really does allow for optimum growth. The kids are able to settle in and feel at home--and then really let themselves take risks and become better readers and writers. It's MAGECal!

Like most of our students, AR seems to be opening up. Let's definitely hope there is a happy ending to that story of his. The shows on television these days sure have changed so much from the past. It seems that nothing is censored for children. However, I am glad to hear that he has improved.
ReplyDeleteShock and Awe: That's was the Bush Administrations name for the original operation in Iraq. Not sure if it works or not! ;) Anyway, confidence is a great asset that he has now. Keep encouraging it.
ReplyDeleteThe way I see it, an improvement is an improvement regardless of the avenue used or taken by your student. As we have learned, the child's schema allows him to write about what he knows and is interested in. Writing about violence doesn't mean he's violent in nature; it's could be just a topic that interests him.
ReplyDeleteCj,
ReplyDeleteI love you image! I can see how far AR has come and you are the reason for it. I'm so glad that he has come out of his shell, like Hoben has as well....the MAGEC is contagious! Let's keep it going!
